Why Choose a Bar Package Instead of Running a Tab

Choosing what to offer your guests at the bar at your wedding or event can be difficult – it’s one of the larger budget items for an event. A lot of people ask us if they can run a tab for all drinks, rather than choose a bar package that encompasses an “all you can drink” style for all guests who drink. We have a few reasons that we usually advise against this, and we’ll go over them in this blog.

May be more economical

The main reason most want to run a tab rather than choose an inclusive package is because they think it will save them money – but we often find this to be the opposite. Choosing a bar package is often more economical.

Barnwood Events’ bar package prices are pretty affordable and often even out to be less expensive or equal to ala carte beverages.

Some people ask us – “what if my aunt only has one drink? People like her don’t make the bar packages worth it.”

To that we say – with every person who only has one beer, there are three who drink eight beers. In the end, it usually evens out, and even ends up being more affordable than ringing up individual drinks for every single person.

Quicker service

A bar package means quicker service from our bartenders. They don’t have to enter all drinks into our POS, they can just continuously serve and move from guest to guest. When they run a tab, each drink must be individually rung into our system, and this takes time.

More choices for the bar

With a bar package, you get a few choices that you don’t get when running a tab. Barnwood always has Coors Light and Spotted Cow on tap, and with a bar package, you can pick two more taps.

We also offer the choice of a signature cocktail (or two if you choose a premium package) with a bar package. We have a list of favorites, but we can also help customize a drink of your choices.
