A venue is usually the first vendor to check off of the list when wedding planning, and it can be difficult to know where to start. What’s important to you on the day-of? What do you want the day to feel and look like? These overarching questions can help you determine your vision.
But some nitty-gritty details are key to a smooth and successful wedding day. This blog outlines a few of the questions we recommend asking to ensure a seamless wedding and reception.
The ceremony is the main event on a wedding day, so if you plan to hold your ceremony at the same place as your reception, it’s important to check out the ceremony locations and backup options.
While Barnwood is known for its amazing outdoor wedding ceremony locations, we do have great options for indoor ceremonies as well. We ask couples to determine if they would like to move their ceremony indoors three hours prior to the ceremony start time, and we handle all set up and take down.

Madison is a busy city, and everyone who’s visited understands the perils of parking. When you visit a venue for a tour, think of your guests and whether there is suitable parking for them on your wedding day. Also, check and see if the venue has a free shuttle service from local hotels.
Barnwood Events has 170 parking stalls (for free!) and accessible parking options. If guests need to leave their cars overnight, they are welcome to pick them up the next day. Barnwood has also partnered with several local hotels to provide free shuttle service for wedding guests.
Most wedding venues in Madison, WI have a liquor license, which means that they are responsible for sourcing alcohol and bartenders. If not, the couple has to buy alcohol, haul it, and find servers for their guests’ drinks.
Barnwood holds a liquor license and offers bar packages and options customized to each couple. Reach out for our bar menu and pricing or to discuss how to make your budget work for the bar.

Regardless of the location, there will always be wedding guests that need lodging, or a safe way to get home after a day of celebration. Make sure to ask about lodging and shuttle options for your guests.
There is an on-site lodging for rent at the farmhouse at Barnwood. Two adjoining units are now available. The larger unit can sleep up to 14 guests and the smaller unit can sleep up to 6 guests (smaller unit available beginning 2026). And as mentioned in the parking section above, we have partner hotels that offer shuttles to and from Barnwood when you book a room block. We’ve got lodging covered! And yes, Uber & Lyft service Barnwood.
There are so many other questions that could and should be asked when deciding on a wedding venue. Our tours give as much information as possible, and we always encourage questions! Schedule a tour here, we believe the best way to check out Barnwood Events is in person, and we’d love to show you around.
